First Communion is where a person recieve the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time. We believe as Catholics that the Eucharist is the mystical and real body of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Holy Eucharist is reserved for baptized Catholics, or persons who have publically professed their faith in Christ Jesus, and desire to be a member and in full communion with his Bride, the Holy Catholic Church. The minimum age to request to receive the Eucharist is when a person is conscious and aware of who and what they are recieving. The Catholic Church has determined this age to be 7 years old, the age of reason. In order to recieve the Eucharist, a person is required to undergo a period of instruction to ensure that they have a informed and well-formed conscience.
Here at St. John Paul II the children participate in our Catechsis of the Good Shepherd program to satisfy the two years of sacramental prep required for 1st Communion. For more information on CGS at the Chapel click HERE
